Brand, print and website on a budget for West London hospital charity
The brief
Hillingdon Hospitals Charity supports the half a million people that are treated at Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals every year. Visitors range from those arriving at Accident and Emergency in a critical condition through to the five thousand babies born each year. The charity funds practical improvements for patients at both hospitals, helps to transform the hospital environment, develops hospital staff & volunteers, and supports innovation towards the best possible healthcare available.
Our approach
“Working with The Bureau was a real pleasure, and we are delighted with the results. The team clearly understood our brief, and did some great work to develop design routes, and look at how they would be applied in practice.”
Andrew Bickerdike, Charity Director
We planned a stripped-down, leaner, more concentrated brand design process, swiftly moving from early conceptual ideas through to final route selection in a matter of days. A preferred route quickly emerged that combined a clean fresh palette, dependable, user-friendly fonts choices and a warm, authentic image choice. All built around an approachable big squeeze of a logo that conceptually married the two Hillingdon hospital sites, and the double ‘H’ of the charity name into the invitation to ‘give a Hillingdon hug’.
With an eye on costs, we balanced more premium, external-facing designed collateral off against simpler ‘templated’ documents that could be produced in house. All supported by a clear and concise brand guideline document. Marketing materials included pull up banners, postcards, letterheads, fundraising packs, t-shirts and collection tins.
Without the budget to develop a new WordPress website from scratch, we worked closely with the client to identify and customise a suitable Squarespace template. Such services have some good advantages for smaller organisations, not least that the website hosting and website maintenance is bundled into an affordable monthly cost. Through careful configuration, we were able to produce a simple website which feels distinctive and faithful to the new brand.
We assisted the client in securing a Google Grant and setting up a campaign structure that helps support fundraising efforts, creates brand awareness and consistently drives around 100 new people to the website each day.
