Victim First – Website to better serve victims of crime seeking help and justice
Victim First is a free, independent and confidential service for victims and witnesses of crime across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
We worked with Victim First to build a new website and expanded visual identity to better serve people looking for support. The project involved extensive user involvement, including co-creation workshops with some of the young people they support.
Expanded visual identity
The early part of the project was spent looking at Victim First’s identity. After some initial discussion with key members of the team, we went through an exploration process that looked at a range of options for the logo mark, colour palette and typeface pairings. Options were presented to the client and the chosen route was refined further.
Website stuff
Victim First wanted their website to be an information hub that enables victims to access advice and support through the use of carefully considered user journeys.
It became clear through our initial research and consultation that the appropriate range and tone of information that was appropriate for adults and younger people was quite different so we made that distinction in the site architecture.
We integrated secure website chat functionality, to enable users to get quick advice from a member of their team.
We also included a a prominent ‘hide page’ button so that visitors who may be accessing the site in dangerous situations can quickly conceal their use of the site.
Co-design
Co-design with young people could be employed for the creation of pages directed at this audience. We could consider this during the architecture and design phases to make sure that not only are designs tailored to this age group, but any user journeys are intuitive for these visitors.
This new website has been developed by victims of crime for victims of crime and I am very grateful for their contributions. Their ideas and suggestions have been instrumental to the project and will benefit victims of crime for many years to come.
