Frontline – An accessible new website to support key recruitment user journeys
Frontline is a charity creating social change for children who do not have a safe or stable home by developing excellent social work practice and leadership.
Frontline was looking for a digital partner to rebuild their website. We worked collaboratively with their team to help craft a product that better facilitates their recruitment processes and helps position them as a warm and ambitious organisation.
Involving staff and users in the process
During the discovery phase, we interviewed a wide range of website users and members of the staff team. Our research identified some specific areas that warranted dedicated attention, such as balancing information offered to applicants against the needs of other key groups and ensuring that high-priority actions such as registering interest and applying for the programme were more intuitive to complete.
These insights filtered through to the information architecture workshops, where we explored ways to organise Frontline’s content and clarified key user journeys.
A clearer presentation of Frontline’s work
Frontline had a number of objectives for their new website. They were already well known as a graduate recruiter, but they needed to better inform their audience about their broader charitable work to develop leaders and encourage innovation in social work. The structure and design of the previous site lacked consistency, and the limitations of the editing interface had made it difficult for staff to present content clearly and create appealing layouts.
To strike the right balance between maintaining consistency and providing maximum flexibility, we developed a large library of modular ‘blocks’ that can be combined in various ways to create a range of layout options.
Systematic and accessible approach to design
We took a systematic approach to the design, starting with the core brand assets and guidelines around colour, typography and layout. We ensured that the interface was clean and consistent and that high accessibility standards were met, which was of particular importance to the client. Following the launch, we’ve also built additional functionality to allow Frontline to produce engaging online impact reports.
We’re really happy with how the site is helping to support Frontline’s key objectives and are looking forward to being involved with their work in future.
